Creeping Thyme (Serpyllum Mother of Thyme) – A perennial creeping thyme for use between paving-stones or as an edging! Mother of Thyme is an ideal choice for planting between walkway stones or bricks and used as a ground cover. Like other thymes, the leaves are highly fragrant; great to inhale as you are walking along the pathway to the front door! This prostrate, mat-forming perennial with slim stems is lined with tiny, oval, hairy leaves which tend to be dark green. Clusters of pale lavender flowers appear in summer on plants that reach 2 – 4 inches tall and 24 inches wide. Grow like other creeping thymes, in well-drained soil in full sun. For best coverage as a groundcover, avoid planting in very cold or wet areas. The top photo gives you a good image of this ground cover plant when it is in full bloom. The bottom right pictures is a good photo of the foliage when not in bloom. In most locations, the foliage will look good even in the winter months.
